Privacy Policy

AccountingMaps ("we", "us") runs this website. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use it, why we collect it, and the choices you have. If you have a question, write to info@accountingmaps.com.
What we collect
You can explore every map without an account and without telling us who you are. We collect personal information only when you send us something:
- Posting an opportunity: your name, email address and organisation, and the details of the listing (title, description, country, city, sector, deal size, link and closing date). Once we approve a listing, its details and your organisation's name appear on the site. Your name and email address are never published.
- Contacting the poster of a listing: your name, email address, organisation (if you give it) and your message. We keep the message and forward it, with your name, email address and organisation, to the person who posted the listing, so that they can reply to you directly.
- Feedback and map suggestions: your message, the page you sent it from and, if you choose to give it, your email address so that we can reply.
- The weekly update: if you subscribe, your email address, when and where you signed up, and whether you have confirmed your subscription.
- Site assistant: if you use the assistant on the map pages, the questions you type are sent to our AI provider to produce an answer. Please don't include personal information in them.
Like every website, ours receives your IP address and basic browser information when you visit, so that the pages can be delivered and the site kept secure. To protect our forms from spam and abuse we use a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, which cannot be turned back into the address itself. The counters built from it are deleted after two days; a message you send to a poster keeps it for as long as the message is kept.
Cookies and your browser
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser keeps a few small preferences on your own device: your light or dark theme, whether you have closed the welcome message, and which map panels you have hidden. Our visitor statistics (Vercel Web Analytics) work without cookies and show us only totals, such as how many people visited a page. People who sign in to edit the site use a login cookie.
How we use it
- to publish and manage your listing, and to pass on replies to it
- to answer your feedback and consider your suggestions
- to send the weekly update you asked for
- to keep the site secure and free of spam and abuse
- to understand, in total, how the site is used, so that we can improve it
We don't sell your personal information or use it for advertising. Where data-protection law asks for a legal basis, ours is doing what you asked us to do (publishing a listing, forwarding a message, answering feedback), your consent (the weekly update, which you can withdraw at any time), and our legitimate interest in running a secure and useful website.
Who we share it with
We use service providers to run the site, and they handle your information only on our instructions: Vercel (hosting, file storage and visitor statistics), Turso (our database), Resend (sending email) and OpenStreetMap's place search (to find the city you enter for a listing; only the city and country are sent). Questions you type into the site assistant go to our AI provider. These providers may handle data in other countries, including the United States and the European Union; where the law requires it, these transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards. We will also disclose information when the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
- Listings, and the messages sent about them: while the listing is live, and afterwards only as long as needed to deal with any follow-up. Then we delete them.
- Feedback and suggestions: until we have dealt with them.
- The weekly update: until you unsubscribe. A sign-up that isn't confirmed within 30 days is deleted.
You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or limit how we use it, and to receive a copy of it. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time; every weekly update has an unsubscribe link. To use any of these rights, write to info@accountingmaps.com. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can also complain to your data-protection authority.
Children
AccountingMaps is meant for professionals and is not directed at children under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
